About the Book

This is a story about Arthur, a very ordinary boy who lives a very ordinary life, without any friends. Thinking that a friend might make his life a little less ordinary, Arthur, armed only with his bottomless backpack and his wits, sets off on a journey to find a friend. Along the way, he runs into several obstacles, including a hungry shark, an angry snake and a grumpy tiger. His bottomless backpack holds just the right items to help Arthur work his way out of each encounter. Will Arthur find a truly extraordinary friend? Will he find his way back home? Will his life become less ordinary? Read Arthur Finds A Friend for the entertaining answers.
About the Author: Karen DeCrane's favorite pastime as a kid was reading. Perched in a willow tree or under the bed covers with a flashlight, a book was her constant companion. Joining the personal computer revolution when Apple was barely out of the garage began her lifelong career adventure. She met and worked with most of the early titans of that fast paced industry. Her favorite? Roberta Williams of King's Quest fame. Roberta's influence can be seen in the Arthur and Throcky Reading Adventures. Seeing characters come alive onscreen or in a book, solving problems in unusual, non-violent ways was a hallmark of the popular King's Quest series and is an important element of every Arthur Adventure. With her own children grown to adulthood, Karen has found a new audience for her talents, young readers. Combining her love of history, science and reading, she provides gentle lessons and entertainment for adventurous minds. "History, reading and science are fun!", says Karen, "or at least they can be. In the words of Miss Frizzle, 'Take Chances! Make Mistakes! Get Messy!' but above all learn and have fun doing it!" Mrs. DeCrane shares her home in the mountains of Arizona with her rescued dogs, a geriatric goldfish, and a Goffin's Cockatoo providing comic relief. Arthur Finds a Friend is the first book she has published, but certainly will not be the last adventure for Arthur and his extraordinary friend, Throcky.
