Nell'anno 1914 Umberto Notari - fra gli editori italiani più illuminati, creativi e innovativi della prima metà del Novecento - pubblicò la traduzione italiana del libro di Lewis Carroll Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, con il titolo Attraverso lo specchio e quel che Alice vi trovò.
È questo un libro bellissimo, del tutto diverso da Alice nel paese delle meraviglie, di cui è la continuazione. Carroll lascia il gioco delle carte e narra le nuove avventure oniriche della giovane Alice mediante l'espediente del gioco degli scacchi.
Questa pubblicazione include i disegni originali di sir John Tenniel, pubblicati nella prima edizione inglese.
