About the Book

This book of historical anecdotes is set in the Northwestern Lake Superior region. It is fact filled, fast moving, humorous and witty with identifiable human faces. You will get to know the people who made America what it is today; fur traders, Indians, voyagers, lumberjacks, robber barons and homesteading pioneers. Travel through history on the Brule River of Wisconsin and along the shore of Lake Superior. Take note of the howls of the timber wolves, the war cries of the Ojibwe and Sioux, and the tales of the lumbermen.
About the Author: Jane's historical astuteness was inherited from her father, Ed Pearson, a civic minded, public spirited community leader and dedicated historian with a cynical sense of humor. Jane was made aware of Northern Wisconsin's unfolding history by visiting ancient Indian hunting camps, battlefields, voyager outposts, logging camps, and early homestead sites with her father as a guide. Jane and her father expanded their knowledge through reading, research, and interviews, and correspondence with old-timers of the area. Jane and her husband John have actively pursued a life of adventure while broadening their education. Going to school three nights a week, Jane and her husband kept active exploring the rivers and waterways of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Their favorite places were the Brule River (they canoed the Brule every month of the year except December and even canoed its largest tributary from Lake Nebagamon), the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior, and the expansive St. Louis River separating Minnesota from Wisconsin with its boundless maze of tributaries; the wild rice harvesting grounds of the Indians were their frequent sanctuaries. Fifteen years of their young lives were spent sailing and exploring with their home built 46-foot boat Dursmirg. Home based in Florida, they took up residence in Melbourne, Miami, Marathon, St. Petersburg, and St. Augustine. Jane and John took to the road by camper van and bicycle. Canada, Mexico, the U. S. and Europe were some of the places they explored. They live in Merida, Yucatan, in an ecology concept home of their own design. Their jungle sanctuary gives them a place and the inspiration for writing of their adventures and history.
