About the Author: My name is Daisy Cheree Slater-Pagel. I grew up in a small southern town near a military base and 25 miles from Mexico in southern Arizona. Despite the fact, that I grew up in a small town, I had the privilege to share some of my recipes in a small town Newspaper "Mountain View News" five star rating publication, through an article about my background and my recipes. This was the beginning of a new adventure, one which inspired me to finish my book with the support and encouragement of friends and family. Speaking of family, I remember moving quite a bit as a child. My family moved from city to city up until I was my late teens, traveling from Washington, Oklahoma and back to Arizona. When I was in my early to mid twenties, I traveled to Virginia and spent a year there. Then I moved to Oregon, where I attended culinary school at the Western Culinary institute in Portland, OR. I had such a great experience there, trying so many new tastes and cuisines of various cultures. Speaking of foods and cuisines, I can remember cooking and trying many different varieties of dishes growing up with my family during certain occasions during birthdays and holidays. During those times, my family would get together and bring their creations of cuisines they have learned or tasted from around the world. I remember the many flavors, textures and presentations that seemed so amazing to me. I'm part of a big family and so there was always plenty of food to go around and share. In fact, so much so that there was always food leftover. My family members encouraged us all to take some home to enjoy later so nothing was ever wasted. I believe this is a big part of why I love to cook and share my food with so many and aspire to continue to do so. From my heart to yours, don't forget to put a little love into your meals and absolutely remember to share your leftovers.
