Chr. ) "Indagandis sedibus et causis morborum" steht als Widmung tiber dem von Carl VON ROKITANSKY erbauten und 1862 fer tiggestellten Pathologisch-Anatomischen Institut der Univer siHit Wien. Ihr waren die pathologischen Anatomen der Wie ner medizinischen Schule (DOERR 1974) seit VON ROKITANSKY tiber PALTAUF, Hanns ClllARI, KOLISKO bis Hermann ClllARI, meinem verehrten Chef, verpilichtet, wenn sie nicht nur zeitbedingt der Autopsie, also dem Lokalaugenschein, dem "Tatort im Organism us," dem Erfolgsorgan, dem Geschehen und seinen morphologischen Substraten, die zentrale Position ihrer Tatigkeit einraumten (SCHONBAUER 1944, LESKY 1965, MEYER-STEINEGG und SUDHOFF 1928). Wie schon bei Giovanni Battista MORGAGNI, dessen Schriften "De sedibus et causis morborum per anatomen indagatis" der vorausgestellte Leit gedanke entstammt, waren eigene Befunde und Erfahrungen die Basis ihrer Aussagen, einer nicht trotz, sondern vielleicht gerade wegen ihrer stark gestaltlichen Ausrichtung sehr der klinischen Medizin aufgeschlossenen und zugewandten pa thologischen Anatomie. Aus dieser Tradition soIl es uns gelin gen, dem Kliniker auch he ute noch neben der Autklarung des klinischen Einzelfalles bestimmte Krankheitsbegriffe als Er gebnis speziell pathologisch-anatomischer Erfahrungen je weils den veranderten Umweltsbedingungen angepaBt neu zu definieren - ein Auftrag wie ihn Wilhelm DOERR 1974 flir die Pathologen unserer Zeit sieht. Ihm verdanke ich die Anre gung zu dieser Monographie. Institute und Zentral- und Schwerpunktskrankenhauser eroffnen unter anderem die Moglichkeit der Erfassung und Auswertung des nicht selektierten individuellen Krankengu tes einer Region."
