Was sollte eine Führungskraft im Rahmen der beruflichen Kommunikation berücksichtigen? Welche Grundsätze der Führungskommunikation lassen sich aus den untersuchten Modellen ableiten? Die Bedeutung des Themas Kommunikation ist in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten signifikant gestiegen. Dies gilt für den privaten und insbesondere auch für den beruflichen Bereich. Die Kommunikation in Unternehmen hat sich stark gewandelt und zeichnet heute ein vollkommen neues Bild. Dies wirkt sich auch auf die Führungskräfte von Behörden und Wirtschaftsunternehmen aus: "Das Ende von Befehl und Gehorsam - Führungsaufgaben sind Kommunikationsaufgaben. Der Befund ist nicht neu - an Aktualität mangelt es ihm dennoch nicht." (Deekeling/ Barghop 2003: 94). Hier zeigt sich bereits, dass die Kommunikation eine äußerst wichtige Fähigkeit von Führungskräften darstellt. Manche Autoren gehen noch weiter und erklären: "In der wissenschaftlichen Fachliteratur wie auch in den untersuchten Ratgebern herrscht Einigkeit darüber, dass Führung zu großen Teilen aus Kommunikation bzw. kommunikationsintensiven Tätigkeiten besteht" (Sternberg 2011: 43). An diesem Punkt werden Führungsaufgaben nahezu vollständig auf Kommunikation und solche Tätigkeiten beschränkt, die stark mit der Kommunikation verknüpft sind. Weshalb die Kommunikationsfähigkeit einer Führungskraft einen derart hohen Stellenwert innehat, macht folgendes Zitat deutlich: "Niemand würde heute ernsthaft bestreiten, dass die Qualität der Kommunikation im Unternehmen entscheiden die Wettbewerbskraft bestimmt" (Schlötter 2006: 7).
