Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Holocaust in Polen hat in den vergangenen Jahren eine neue Dynamik, aber auch eine neue künstlerisch-literarische Dimension erreicht. Stellten vor allem in den 1990er Jahren späte literarische Zeugnisse von Holocaustüberlebenden einen Großteil der Veröffentlichungen dar, so werden diese Erlebnisse nun von der zweiten bzw. dritten Generation portraitiert, welche in stärkerem Maße abstrahiert und die Aufarbeitung kritisch hinterfragt. Die Auswirkungen der zeitlichen und emotionalen Distanz zu dem Thema schaffen neue Erzählstrategien und mitunter provokante Darstellungsformen.Die Studie zeigt an zwei Beispielen auf, wie in der polnischen Literatur des 21. Jahrhunderts das Thema Holocaust und der generationenspezifische Umgang damit realisiert werden. Ausgehend von der Textanalyse werden die Werke von Piotr Paziński (Pensjonat, 2010) und Zyta Rudzka (Ślicznotka doktora Josefa, 2006) auch im Kontext des gesellschaftlichen Diskurses um das polnisch-jüdische Verhältnis betrachtet, da beide Werke gleichermaßen einen gegenwärtigen subtilen Antisemitismus ansprechen. Neben der Überwindung gängiger Narrationsmuster wird ein klarer Generationenkonflikt deutlich: Die Ohnmacht der Erlebnisgeneration, die es nicht vermag, ihr Schicksal mitzuteilen, steht einer jungen Generation gegenüber, die versucht, der Vergangenheit in ihrem Leben einen Raum zu geben. Somit werden die Bedingungen des eigenen Platzes in der Gesellschaft vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte reflektiert. Hiemers Buch ist die erste umfangreiche Abhandlung über die polnische Holocaustliteratur des 21. Jahrhunderts im deutschen Sprachraum. Sie wendet sich an Literaturwissenschaftler, die sich mit der jüngsten polnischen Literatur auseinandersetzen und sich insbesondere für die literarische Aufarbeitung des Holocaust unter textimmanenten Gesichtspunkten interessieren, ohne dabei die Texte losgelöst von ihrem jeweiligen Entstehungskontext betrachten zu müssen.
