Si le marche vend a vingt fois plus qu'il n'achete et que tous les experts vous pressent d'en etre parce que vous ne pouvez pas perdre, n'en soyez pas. De la meme facon, vos deconvenues dans les institutions publiques sont le resultat du meme titanique degre de certitude de personnes eclairees et bien intentionnees qui appliquent aux problematiques de longues issues une logique de plan d'action adaptee aux solutions a court-terme. Premierement, vous observez une descente en fleche de vos retours sur investissements (de temps comme de ressources) jusqu'a heurter le sol. Puis, si vous vous obstinez a descendre en-dessous de ce niveau - et vous vous obstinez toujours - vous ne pouvez echapper a la catastrophe. Le probleme etant que cette catastrophe ne peut etre evitee par les personnes eclairees et de bonnes intentions, puisque ce sont elles qui l'ont engendree au depart. William Bonner a tire de ces reflexions l'Hormegeddon, ce phenomene qui survient lorsqu'une petite dose de quelque chose de productif conduit a un resultat favorable, mais tourne au desastre si l'on augmente la posologie. A travers de nombreux episodes de l'Histoire, de l'economie et des affaires, il tisse le contexte permettant de comprendre ce danger anonyme et trop largement meconnu. Vous devez absolument, absolument lire cette exposition des effets secondaires du gouvernement. Elle eclaire le probleme de l'interventionnisme naif, l'iatrogenie des bureaucraties, l'absence grandissante de prise de risques personnels (Le probleme d'Hammurabi), s'ajoutant a d'autres difformites de l'Etat moderne, et montre comment la fragilite d'un tel systeme le condamne a s'ecrouler sous son poids. C'est profond, eclairant, malin et plaisant a lire. Achetez-en deux exemplaires: un pour vous et un pour votre voisin politicien. Nassim Nicholas Taleb, auteur de Antifragile (traduit aux Belles Lettres en 2013) Je suis rarement jaloux de quelqu'un, mais j'envie sincerement les qualites intellectuelles et de plume de Bill Bonner. Je lis ses chroniques tous les jours pour sa prose parfaite et ses vues pertinentes sur l'economie et les marches d'investissements. Mais Hormegeddon est de loin ce que Bonner a produit de meilleur. C'est drole, cynique, sarcastique, hautement pedagogique, magnifiquement ecrit, divertissant, et, le plus important: ecrit par un homme qui ne craint pas de dire la verite et monte au creneau pour elle.
