About the Book

Die Lutherkirche in HH-Wellingsbüttel war die erste Kirche der Architekten Hopp und Jäger (=H&J) in der Region. Sie wurde 1937 eingeweiht, als Wellingsbüttel politisch neu zu Hamburg, kirchlich noch zu Schleswig-Holstein und zu Bramfeld gehörte. Der dort zuvor langjährige Ortspastor, Christian Boeck, übernahm 1933 den neuen Pfarrbezirk Wellingsbüttel. Er und sein Nachfolger in Bramfeld, Siegfried Seeler, erreichten in den folgenden Jahren, Grundstück, Finanzmittel und Genehmigungen für den Kirchbau zu beschaffen - in der NS-Zeit nicht selbstverständlich. Für das Zusammenspiel zwischen H&J sowie der kirchlichen und der politischen Gemeinde ist zu klären, wie die Besonderheiten dieses Gebäudes (eines der Dekor-Elemente im Fachwerk war ein Hakenkreuz) die Zeitbedingungen reflektierten. Die Gestaltung und Ausstattung des Kirchraumes geht primär auf Entwürfe und eigene Arbeiten von B. Hopp zurück. Weitere Kunstwerke sind vom Holzbildhauer J. Manshardt und der Glaskünstlerin S. Schlytter geschaffen worden. Während das Äußere der inzwischen denkmalgeschützten Kirche weitgehend gleich geblieben ist, hat das Innere - u.a. wegen einer neuen Orgel - beträchtliche Veränderungen erfahren. Daran war auch weiterhin bis 1971 das Architekturbüro H&J beteiligt.
About the Author: Dr. Uwe Gleßmer (Jahrgang 1951) ist Privatdozent für Altes Testament. Er wurde 1982 nach seinem Vikariat in der Gemeinde Maria-Magdalenen von Bischof Wölber zum Pastor ordiniert, arbeitete bis 2013 mit kurzzeitigen Unterbrechungen an der Universität Hamburg. Seit seinem Ruhestand ist er ehrenamtlich am Geschichtsprojekt der Lutherkirchen-Gemeinde in Hamburg-Wellingsbüttel engagiert sowie an dem Dokumentationsprojekt zum Architekturbüro Hopp und Jäger (www.huj-projekt.de). - Auf dem Hintergrund der Erschließung des umfangreichen Fotomaterials des Hamburgischen Architekturarchivs widmet er sich in besonderer Weise den von H&J vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg im Norden Hamburgs gestalteten Kirchbauten sowie den damit verbundenen historischen Zusammenhängen.
