PLATON - heutzutage, 2023, so weithin vergessen oder gänzlich unbekannt wie ein Buch mit dem Titel Platonische Ironie. Das Beispiel Theaitetos aus dem Jahr 1975, das seinem Namen zu neuem Glanz verhelfen sollte - dieser Platon war, neben oder sogar noch vor Aristoteles, dem Begründer der europäischen Naturwissenschaft, der bedeutendste Philosoph der griechischen Antike, ohne dessen Einfluss die Geistesgeschichte des Abendlandes einen anderen Verlauf genommen hätte. Zugleich war er, was man in unseren Tagen einen Großschriftsteller nennt, dessen Werke in einmaliger Weise von dem Prinzip einer indirekten Mitteilung, genannt Ironie, geprägt sind. Dieses Prinzip der Ironie hat Platon von seinem Lehrer Sokrates übernommen und dahingehend abgewandelt, dass nicht länger, wie bei der sprichwörtlichen Ironie des Sokrates, der Gesprächspartner, sondern nunmehr der Leser der platonischen Texte zur Zielscheibe der absichtlichen Täuschung wird. Diese Täuschung wiederum dient dem Zweck, den Leser dazu zu zwingen, sich das, was Platon eigentlich gemeint hat, durch eigenständige Denkarbeit selbst zu erschließen. Die anhaltende Wirkung, die Platons Texte auf die europäische Geistesgeschichte ausgeübt haben, beruht jedoch im Gegenteil darauf, dass sie für bare Münze, also wörtlich genommen worden sind, statt ihren durchgängig ironischen Charakter als Leitfaden des Verständnisses zu nutzen. DAS BUCH PLATONISCHE IRONIE. Das Beispiel Theaitetos von 1975 war als der Versuch gedacht, diesem Missstand abzuhelfen und anhand eines einzelnen Dialoges vorzuführen, wie Platon seine indirekte Mitteilung ins Werk gesetzt hat. Heute, 50 Jahre nach der Entstehung des Erstlings, unternimmt der Verfasser einen neuen Anlauf, mit einer leichter, vielleicht sogar vergnüglich lesbaren Version der Textdeutung Platons Kunstfertigkeit ins rechte Licht zu rücken.
