Doug LangDoug Lang was from South Wales, and lived in Washington, D.C. from 1973 until his death in November 2022. Lang taught at the Corcoran College of Art & Design from 1976 to 2013. In the 1950s and 1960s he worked at British Home Stores department store nd the Home & Colonial supermarket, both in Swansea, and at the Steel Company of Wales. He attended Coleg Harlech in North Wales, 1965-1967, where his teaching career began in an unofficial capacity as a tutor to fellow students. Lang taught writing at the American-based Aegean School of Fine Arts in Greece in 1968 and 1970 and worked in television news at the BBC in London, 1970-1973. His novel, Freaks, was published by New English Library in 1973. From 1976 to 1978 Lang ran the influential Folio Books Reading series, which brought together poets from NewYork, the West Coast, D.C. and elsewhere including John Ashbery, Charles Bernstein, Ted Berrigan, Tim Dlugos, Barbara Guest, Alice Notley, Ron Padgett, Susan Howe, Tom Raworth, and many others.
