EVERETT DEAN MARTINEverett Dean Martin was an American minister, writer, journalist, educator, speaker, social psychologist, social philosopher, and an advocate of adult education. He was born on July 5th, 1880 in Jacksonville, Illinois, and graduated from Illinois Colege there at the age of 24 with honors. In addition to serving on The New School's board of directors from 1925 to 1932, he taught and spoke at The New School for Social Research in New York City from 1921 to 1929. From 1922 until 1934, he served as the last director of Cooper Union's People's Institute in New York City. He married Illinois native Esther W. Kirk in 1907 in Jacksonville. Elizabeth, Margaret, and Mary were their three children. Martin's interests extended beyond philosophy, and he produced numerous volumes on the subject, including "The Conduct of Crowds: A Psychological Study," which is now considered to be one of his most well-known works. At the age of 60, Martin passed away in Claremont, California, on May 10, 1941, from a heart attack. Read More Read Less
