Geoffry FordyceGeoffry Fordyce hails from north Australia's beef cattle and sugar cane country. After completing a veterinary science degree, augmented with postgraduate study, research of beef cattle systems, especially of reproducing cattle in the tropical world,has been his life's work. Geoffry most recently worked for the University of Queensland and collaborated with beef business operators and other scientists across northern Australia, Indonesia and Timor-Leste, ultimately developing new business practices that can improve the profitability of beef systems, while also having significant welfare benefits for the animals, the environment and the people. His endeavours resulted in him being awarded the inaugural medal for Excellence in Research by the North Australian Beef Research Council in 2006. In 2021, Geoffry was bestowed with a prestigious Honorary Doctor of Science degree by James Cook University in recognition of his contributions to the international cattle industry and rural communities. Geoffry has hundreds of scientific publications, highlighted by almost 80 papers in international peer-review science journals (eg, doi.org/10.1071/AN20342) and a few books.
