J Angus Sourdough McLeanJ. Angus "Sourdough" McLean, illustrator, was Buck's wingman and sporting art risk taker. From a family rich in Oregon big woods logging, his illustrations were exact, appropriate, and brimming with good humor. A fine fisherman and woodsman, Sourdoug got the drift and nailed every book subject with extraordinary skill. No illustrations were wasted. When he and Buck first met up, he was drawing nature images for a large t-shirt company in the Pacific Northwest and in his spare time, drew pro bono for the local logging festivals and schools. Like few others, John communicated the joy of being alive, a moving, essential part of nature.He was flattered when Leanin' Tree(R) chose an image for greeting cards and a large specialty apparel company chose the same one for clothing with international distribution.
