James RoetheJim is an avid birder who, over the last 50 years, has lived, hiked and birded the hundreds of miles of trails in the hills east of San Francisco where he lives. He is a member of the Golden Gate Audubon Society and has participated in many bird couns for them. Jim is a published author having written several books about family, travel and birds. In addition to birding, Jim has traveled widely and enjoys singing with several East Bay choirs. While Jim has dabbled at poetry over the years, Poetry Takes Flight is his first published book of poetry.For the last half century, Jim Roethe has lived in Orinda, California, an East Bay suburb of San Francisco, where he has hiked and birded in the hundreds of miles of trails that are part of the East Bay Regional Park system and the local water utility. He has also written a number of books on his family history and travel experiences and, inevitably, decided to combine his love for birds and writing in Poetry Takes Flight. His hope is to inspire readers to look around them when outdoors, see the wonderful world of birds and gain an understanding of what fascinates so many today to take up birding. Jim is a member of the Golden Gate Audubon Society and has participated in a number of bird counts as part of Golden Gate Audubon's citizen science efforts. For the last several years, Jim has led the North Orinda Christmas Bird Count for Golden Gate Audubon and has participated in Christmas counts in other areas of both the East Bay and the Monterey area where he maintains a second home. In addition to his several books, Jim has submitted articles to a leading birding magazine - one of which was published with two others under consideration. Jim is a semi-retired attorney who still serves as an arbitrator from time to time.
