Jeremîré M ArakaProfessor Jeremîré M. Araka teaches comparative communication, media studies and journalism. Educated in Kenya, the U.K and the USA, he pursued initial doctoral studies in African Studies at Howard University and later earned a Ph.D. in Mass Communiction at Washington Trinity University. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching (Trinity College, Washington, DC) and a Diploma in Engineering (British Institute of Engineering Technology, Oxford). Araka, whose expertise spans journalism, comparative/corporate communication, media management and engineering, has previously served as the deputy vice-chancellor of finance administration and planning- at International Leadership University, acted as deputy vice chancellor of academic affairs- at St. Augustine, the University of Tanzania served as visiting professor - the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and University of Dar es Salaam, taught at Howard University and Daystar University. He has also served in various positions, including presidential advisor on media in Kenya, environmental health engineering, managing director/CEO and editor-in-chief (Kenya Times Media Trust), publications editor (Nation Media Group), special assistant to the Secretary of the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, and White House intern, Washington, D.C. He is credited with the UNEP International Journalistic Attachment Award and has contributed articles to Nobel Institute's Ambio Environment Magazine and Daily Nation's "Our Environment" column. Prof. Araka is the founding chair of the Association of Free and Independent Press and the Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies. His affiliations include the Media Educators and Trainers Association, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Engineers, U.K).
