The Deal Foundation was established to continue the work of former First Lady Sandra Deal by promoting literacy projects and initiatives. Sandra Dunagan Deal (1942-2022) was the daughter of educators and taught for many years in the public schools of Georgia. As First Lady of Georgia for eight years, she made literacy her primary focus. She impressed upon children that literacy opened the doors of imagination, comprehension, and a future full of possibilities. It is estimated that over250,000 children heard her read aloud in all 159 Georgia counties, 181 school districts, and over 1,000 classrooms.
