Chirol was a fervent supporter of British imperialism, claiming that the expansion of Wester civilisation was necessary for the advancement of humanity. He believed that the British Raj had significantly improved India and was a supporter of the British Raj in that nation. Chirol was a prolific author who published multiple volumes on India, China, and Japan in addition to his journalism. His best-known book, "Indian Unrest," examines the reasons behind and effects of the Indian nationalist movement. In 1912, Chirol received a knighthood for his contributions to journalism. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
