Haran belongs to the class of 1962 at St. John's College before entering the University of Ceylon, Colombo faculty to study Bachelor of Science degree. He completed Bachelor and Master Degrees in chemical engineering in United Kingdom, and a Masters Business Finance Degree in United States of America. He is also licensed professional engineer.His professional working experience involves dealing with planning, design development of oil and chemical process plants and business Support in planning, engineering applications of digital telecommunication and wireless technologies in the USA. He is part of a pioneering AT&T Bell Laboratory and Lucent Technologies teams that introduced a pioneer mobile wireless network to Sri Lanka and deployed CDMA wireless network throughout India.After retiring, he provides consulting services in chemical engineering and technologies to manufacturing, designs, energy, environment and process safety. He is interested in agriculture and paddy cultivations in Sri Lanka.He is a founding member and a former president of a cultural and humanitarian Tamil ethnic organization in the US and actively served for over 30 years in the welfare of the Tamils in the USA and in Sri Lanka.
