Swami AbhedanandaSwami Abhedananda, born Kaliprasad Chandra, was the founder of Ramakrishna Vedanta Math and a direct disciple of the 19th century mystic Ramakrishna Paramahansa. Swami Vivekananda dispatched him to the West in 1897 to head the Vedanta Society of New ork to disseminate the doctrine of Vedanta, a matter on which he wrote multiple books during his life, and later created the Ramakrishna Vedanta Math in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and Darjeeling. Kaliprasad Chandra was born on October 2, 1866, in north Calcutta. Rasiklal Chandra was his father, while Nayantara Devi was his mother.
