Walter ScottSir Walter Scott was a Scottish author, poet, playwright, and historian who lived from 15 August 1771 to 21 September 1832. His narrative poems The Lady of the Lake and Marmion, as well as his novels Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Waverley, Old Mortality, The Heat of Mid-Lothian, and The Bride of Lammermoor, are still regarded as classics of European and Scottish literature. He served as the longtime president of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1820–1832), a senior member of the Tories in Edinburgh, and a vice president of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He was also interested in the Highland Society (1827–1829).
