William Bennett MunroWilliam Bennett Munro was a Canadian historian and political scientist who lived from 5 January 1875 to 4 September 1957. He was a professor at both Harvard University and the California Institute of Technology. He was well-known for his work on the ew France seigneurial system and city administration in the United States. Caltech decided to remove William B. Munro's name from one of its buildings in February 2021 because he promoted and practiced eugenics, which is the scientific and racial notion that certain people are better than others based on their genes. The facility was originally known as the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, but it has since been renamed the Hameetman Center. Caltech took this decision as part of an attempt to acknowledge and confront its history of eugenics, which has harmed many individuals via prejudice and harm to marginalized communities.
