The 12 Colors of Combat is a new approach to martial arts and self-defense. It takes a functional rather than a stylistic approach to personal combat. The concept of negative space is introduced and the dodecahedron is the model used to for a structural reference. This book and the other books written by Simmons will improve any practitioner's ability by at least 500%, independent of their "style" of combat. About the Author: ABOUT DALE SIMMONS Simmons was first exposed to the value of self defense training at the age of nine when he was physically assaulted by a bully. This event prompted the start of his studies of all the martial arts. Simmons wanted to become one of the most combat skilled martial artists in the world. The only formal study he had in this field was 3 month of Karate training at age 10. His instructor moved away, so he was left to study on his own. He began reading books on all types of self defense techniques at the local library. He then went on to master those book referenced physical techniques. As Simmons got older, he bought copies of the original books he had read, and acquired others. He has now amassed some 1000 books in the martial arts section of his personal library. This is complemented with another 2500 scientific books for the Wu-Chi course technical support reference section. Simmons uses these references in the creation of his various self-defense courses. As the years have passed, he has continued to expand his information base and physical training regimen. At the age of 13, Simmons began writing study papers, and not just reading books about this vast subject. Along with the theoretical basis for combat, Simmons has learned from practical "real life" experience of what does and does not work in the military hand to hand combat situation, or in the street. He was a military hand-to-hand combat instructor of his own authored course and welcomed any challenge to his skills. This reality based challenging of his skills he still answers to this day. He always confounded and controlled his attackers with ease. The 20 man formal Marine military hand-to-hand combat training unit from MCRD San Diego declined to engage him or four of his military students in actual hand to hand combat. This event was recorded on video and DVD. This "street reality" application is the acid test of a technique's inclusion into any of his courses. If it is impractical, unreal, or nonfunctional for a real life self defense application, it is not included.
