Med. 179-202, befindet sich im zweiten Akt der Tragödie und behandelt einen Dialog zwischen Kreon, dem König von Korinth, und Medea, die laut einem Urteil Kreons das Land verlassen soll. Im Rahmen der Ankunft von Medea und Jason in Korinth nahm Jason die Bitte zur Heirat mit Kreons Tochter Kreusa an. Nachdem im ersten Chorlied die Hochzeitsprozession beschrieben wurde (V. 56-115) und Medea im Gespräch mit der Amme erste Wut- und Rachegefühle (V. 150-178) äußerte, begegnen sich nun der König und Medea. Diese Begegnung zeugt vielmehr von einer Auseinandersetzung zwischen den beiden, in der die unterschiedlichen Standpunkte geklärt werden sollen: Medea übt nicht nur Kritik am Urteil Kreons, sondern auch an dessen "autokratischer Herrschaftsausübung". Nach dem Dialog (V. 179-202) hält Medea eine längere Verteidigungsrede (V. 203-251). Anhand von Sen. Med. 179-202 sollen in dieser Arbeit zunächst ausgewählte philologische Details wie die Textkritik, Metrik und Rhetorik an Beispielen besprochen werden. Im zweiten Schritt stehen der Kontext und damit verbunden unter anderem die Relevanz der Passage und Unterschiede zu anderen Fassungen der Medea. Darauf folgt die übergreifende Interpretation der Textstelle. Ziel ist es hierbei, die Gesprächsführung und Gesprächsverdichtung zu analysieren, den Charakter der Medea und des Kreons aufzuzeigen und herauszufinden, warum der Autor hier den Dialog zwischen Medea und Kreon in der Form eingefügt hat. Hierbei wird Bezug zu Euripides Medea genommen, von dessen Medeamythos Seneca in mehreren Punkten abweicht. Außerdem sollen verschiedene Aspekte, die für oder gegen eine Aufführung der Tragödie sprechen, kurz erläutert werden.
