About the Book

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has completed a total reexamination of its core contracts and issued a new form A201 General Conditions of the Contract for Construction. The A201 is the most frequently used document of all construction agreements, and virtually all AIA contracts are intended to work with it. To help construction lawyers understand and work with the sweeping changes of these widely used general conditions, The 2017 A201 Deskbook identifies and analyzes every significant change made to the A201 document, and also includes for the first time a section-by-section critical analysis of the A201, with case law interpretations and practice tips.
About the Author: Peter W. Hahn is a partner in the construction law practice group of Dinsmore & Shohl's Columbus, Ohio, office. He advises owners and contractors on issues and liability avoidance at every phase of a construction project, from the drafting and negotiation of contracts through post-project issues and construction defect claims. He also regularly advises public authorities throughout Ohio on such topics as construction procurement, project delivery methods, contract terms, regulatory compliance, and claims. He is active in the ABA Forum on Construction Law, where he is a member of the Steering Committee for Division 13 (Government Construction). Mr. Hahn has a bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster and a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Joseph C. Kovars is a shareholder in the Baltimore office of Baker Donelson, where he cochairs the firm's practice group on construction law. Mr. Kovars graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a BA and received his law degree, with honors, from George Washington University Law School. Active in the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, he is currently the Chief Finance Officer and is a former member of its Governing Committee. Mr. Kovars writes and lectures regularly on construction topics. He is a coeditor of Construction Subcontracting (ABA 2012). He is the editor in chief of the Maryland Construction Desk Book (MSBA 2d ed. 2017). He has been listed since 2003 in The Best Lawyers in America, Construction Litigation category, and was named Best Lawyers' Baltimore Litigation--Construction "Lawyer of the Year" (2015).
