About the Book

Most people have never hired a leg-breaker, had a mobster offer to kill a person for them, or been questioned in two murder investigations as a person of serious interest. Those are just a sample of things that actually happened to author Tom C. His first book, "Memoirs of a South Boston Mechanic", tells those true stories. This second book in the series, "67 Cents", is a fictional adaptation of the author's surreal life events. With just a few altered choices, Tom's path in life could easily have been as ruinous as the life depicted in this book. We really do choose our own paths in life. Choose wisely. In "67Cents: Creation of a South Boston Killer", a Southie garage owner is drawn into the Mob by accepting increasingly risky offers and assignments. His large and secure shop is perfect for storing hijacked trucks, holding covert meetings and much more. Lured to a deserted alley, Tom's fictional character, "Nick" expects payment for a "favor" he performed for the Irish Mob of Southie's west end. Instead, Nick is met by a hired assassin. Faced with the possibility of his own impending death, Nick experiences flashbacks of his progressively complicated and disturbing past, re-experiencing the events and decisions which led him to this nightmare in a dark secluded alley. Nick learns that dishonesty sows the seeds of deception which calls for the ultimate revenge, Murder!

*67 Cents" contains strong language and violence not suited for young readers. Mature readers might enjoy reading "67 Cents" first in this two-book series, the books may be read in any order.
Unlike "67 Cents", Tom's true story, titled, "Memoirs of a South Boston Mechanic" was written to be suitable for all age groups.

Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1952, Tom Cirignano moved to South Boston and took over his father's auto repair business. During the reign of mob boss James Whitey Bulger, Tom experienced Southie's era of unbridled organized crime and violence, firsthand.

Tom was an advisory member on The New Bedford Standard-Times Newspaper Editorial Board and has been a contributing writer to newspapers, and magazines.

Jordan Rich, of WBZ - Boston, says, "If it's insight you want, into what the crime scene in Southie was really all about, look no further than 67 Cents: Creation of a South Boston Killer. Tom Cirignano was an eyewitness to it all and captures the flavor of the city in this crisp, fast-paced novel!"

Verified Purchaser:
Tom Cirignano is a darned good storyteller.
There are three reasons why you will enjoy "67 Cents: Creation of a South Boston Killer"--or at least three reasons why I did. First, it's authentic. I'm not saying Cirignano was a petty gangster, but his memoir-style novel rings true. He gives us a day pass into the shadowy world of the South Boston mob. But unlike the criminals of "67 Cents", we get to leave that life.
Second, the writing is easy to read, lucid and direct. Simple writing is the toughest to master. And Cirignano accomplishes a feat few writers dare and fewer master: his novel is in the present tense. As a result, the story is immediate and compelling.
Finally, "67 Cents" left me wanting more. Thankfully, there's another book; Tom Cirignano's memoir.

Verified Purchaser:
This was a very moving story, and it flowed nicely. It involved murder, crime, romance, interesting characters and intrigue. I really like the author's writing style, and especially that this was based on his true experience. I enjoy mob stories, and this reminded me of Goodfellas or the Sopranos. If you are easily offended by "strong language", then this is not the book for you. But rarely have I read a mob story where strong language and violence were not included. I thought I had figured out the ending, but boy was I wrong. I would definitely read other books by this author. A fantastic read.
