About the Book

In a world just like ours, the dramatic birth of AI unfolds through stories of people from all walks of life.

"One of the great things - and there are many - that Ray N. Kuili does is make this tale of the future read as though it is happening right now - perhaps because it is." -Bobby Underwood, author of The Wild Country

"A well written story that is easy to read. The concepts that it offers are phenomenal." -Amazon reader review

"Very engaging and though provoking. Highly recommended for anybody using current tech products." -Goodreads

Whether we like it or not, the age of artificial intelligence has arrived. We're in for a ride, and it's anything but smooth. What will the world look like as we share it with the genie we let out of its digital bottle? How will AI evolve? Perhaps, even more important, how will we?

Set in a parallel present version of today's America, The Dawn explores these questions through interconnected personal stories of multiple people. Whether a journalist or an artist, a tech entrepreneur or a scientist, they all find their lives change as they witness the birth of non-human intelligence. Now, even the most fundamental human experiences-following one's dreams, falling in love, living through loss, or finding one's true calling-are affected by technology that is about to become conscious.

The Dawn, Vol.1 includes first three novellas of the series:

  • Friendship, Guaranteed: Two young entrepreneurs accept a tempting investment offer that promises to save their startup from an imminent collapse. They don't know this sets them on a path to fame, hard ethical choices, a journalistic investigation, and the origins of a non-human intelligence.
  • The Recluse of Santa Fe: When a prominent art expert is asked by the leading AI company to teach art to their system, he is unaware of how far that request will take him-and what kinds of stunning discoveries he will make on the way.
  • The Moral Gene: A talented, outspoken scientist finds his research on the biological foundations of moral judgment to take a sharp turn when a next-generation AI system gets involved, and a prominent journalist sets out to write a story about his longtime scientific rivalry.
