Axel Neuhaus und seine Kollegen der britischen 'Military Intelligence' bereiteten sich im September 1989 auf einen heißen Herbst vor. Auch außerhalb Russlands waren die von Gorbatschow propagierten Glasnost und Perestroika sichtbar geworden. Das setzte auch die Regierung der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik mehr und mehr unter Druck. Es formierte sich ein vielfältiger Widerstand in der DDR: Politiker, die ihr System für unfehlbar hielten. Friedlich gesinnte Oppositionelle. Dazu Systemkritiker, die gewaltbereit waren und unter allen Umständen eine dauerhafte Grenzöffnung erreichen wollten und solche Personen, die einzig an die Sicherung ihres persönlichen Reichtums dachten. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem französischen Geheimdienst versuchte der MI6, einzelne Personen und Gruppen zu identifizieren und zu infiltrieren, um so die Basis für einen friedlichen Übergang zu erhalten. Konnte dieses Vorhaben gelingen? Welchen Glauben konnte man Informationen schenken, die auf einen Anschlag am 31. Oktober 1989 in der Lutherstadt Wittenberg hindeuteten? Inwieweit war der russische Geheimdienst und ein in Dresden stationierter KGB-Major, namens Wladimir Putin, involviert? Neuhaus und sein Team mussten sich diese Fragen stellen und schnell handeln. Die Uhr lief gegen sie. Der Autor Ben Stegmann verdeutlicht in seinem histografischen Roman, zu welchen dramatischen Ereignissen es im Oktober und November 1989 hätte kommen können. Stegmann hat beim Schreiben des Buchs viel Wert auf Detailtreue gelegt und auf eine umfangreiche Recherche. Die Handlungen und Dialoge mussten teilweise aus den geschichtlichen Geschehnissen abgeleitet werden und haben daher einen fiktiven Charakter.
About the Author: Ben Stegmann (1964*), dessen Familie durch die Kriegswirren getrennt und fortan im Westen, bzw. im Osten Deutschlands lebte, ist vor der Grenzöffnung oft in die frühere DDR gereist und hat aus dem eigenen Erleben, aber auch aus den Berichten und Erzählungen seiner 'Ost-Familie' viele Informationen und Eindrücke sammeln können.
