About the Book

After training and studying for years, you've earned a degree: now what? How to get a job and have a career as an actor is the number one question facing emerging artists and one which this book answers for you.

While performing arts schools do a great job of teaching how to act, most don't teach how to launch and sustain a career. This book addresses this fundamental, yet often neglected, aspect of your creative journey. Wendy Kurtzman delivers a precise formula to help you organize and manage the next chapter of your life, allowing you to be proactive about building a career. She provides you with the tools you'll need to connect with agents, managers, writers, directors, and casting directors and find work.

If acting is your business, you must run it as a business. Positioning you as CEO of your own company, this book uses a boardroom table as a visual model. At that table are 7 key positions, each representing an area of action and expertise that you must understand and manage to build a successful career: Chief Financial Officer, Human Resources, Creative Development, Business Development, Marketing and Branding, Representation, and Outreach.

This action plan will give you everything you need to achieve your career goals. With worksheets and tools, and supplemented throughout with interviews with industry professionals from North America, the UK and Europe, and from Australia, testimonials from many performers of color, and further supported by a companion website, Acting is Your Business offers you a wealth of insight and guidance that will empower and equip you to develop your career.

About the Author: Wendy S. With Caroline Liem she co-founded College To Career Acting (CTCA), which helps young actors to start thinking about crafting their careers. She is on the leadership team of the Casting Society of America for which she's the European Chapter Liaison.
