Fur die endokrine Kontrolle der Fortpflanzung werden bei allen Wirbeltieren die "Vechselwirkungen zwischen Gonaden, Hypophyse und Hypothalamus als besonders wichtig angesehen. Bei der Mehrzahl der Wirbeltiere, insbesondere bei allen Nichtsiiugern, kommt Milieufaktoren, vor allem Licht- und Temperatur- einflussen, eine bedeutsame Steuerfunktion fur den Ablauf der hormonalen Pro- zesse im lnneren des Tieres zu. Die Aufschlusselung der endogenen Komponenten im Fortpflanzungsgeschehen konnte bei Siiugern am weitesten vorangetrieben werden und erzielte in jungerer Zeit mit dem Nachweis des hypophysiotropen Releasing-Faktors LRF, seiner Strukturaufkliirung und seiner Synthese (vgl. die Zusammenfassungen von Schally u. Kastin, 1972; Schally et al., 1972; sowie Harris, 1972) einen neuen Hohepunkt. 1m Vergleich hierzu nehmen sich unsere Kenntnisse uber die entsprechenden Zusammenhiinge bei niederen Wirbeltieren eher bescheiden aus. Nicht nur die Funktionsbeziehungen zwischen den drei erwiihnten endokrinen Organen sind noch ungenugend erforscht; selbst die Kenntnis ihrer Strukturen bei diesen Tieren ist nicht nur luckenhaft, sondern zum Teil kontrovers. Dies gilt insbeson- dere fur die bei weitem groBte Wirbeltiergruppe, die Knochenfische. Trotz einer nicht geringen Zahl von Einzeluntersuchungen sind noch viele Fragen offen. Der Streit daruber, ob bei Fischen ein oder zwei gonadotrope Hormone die Tiitigkeit der Gonaden steuern und in der Hypophyse zwei Typen gonadotroper Zellen unterschieden werden konnen (vgl. Reinboth, 1972), ist hierfur symptomatisch. Es solI an dieser Stelle nicht erortert werden, ob die auBerordentlich groBe Mannig- faltigkeit fortpflanzungsbiologischer Spezialisationen bei den Knochenfischen oder ein relativer Mangel an experimentellen Arbeiten innerhalb dieser Tiergruppe als Grund unseres unzureichenden Wissens anzusehen sind.
