About the Book

This book is written for adjunct instructors working part-time at universities, community or technical colleges, and at for-profit schools that award degrees and certificates. You know that you are an integral part of higher education today! Our personal stories support excerpts from research and offer cautions and encouragement. This book provides tips and tools for keeping students and administrators satisfied with your teaching strategies and outcomes -- and keeping you employed. We include several activities to build a sense of community in your classroom, and to test students' critical thinking skills. We show models for syllabi, grading rubrics, and forms used to evaluate your performance as an adjunct. This book is an overview of the role of adjuncts in higher education and a collection of tools you can use tomorrow!
About the Author: Quincey L. Daniels earned Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Physical Education, from Texas A & M University; a Master's in Education from Drury University and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.); and earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Capella University. He is the author of several articles and books about teaching, educational best practices, and working with students with special needs. Quincey is currently developing online student-teacher supervision programs, and presents information on diversity issues to schools, municipalities, and advocacy organizations. Annie Allen-Wyman earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and taught every K-12 grade before teaching at a college. She is the author of several children's books and sells new and used books at The Rosy Orb Bookstore. Her current research project is the history of general education courses. She also works as a program coordinator for foreign high school student exchanges. Both authors are working as adjuncts in higher education. They continue inspire students to be determined and curious, and to advocate for greater adjunct equity.
