About the Book

This book focuses on the Adriatic Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean. It includes 700 articles on the hydrographic and geographic objects, hydrological features and biological resources, as well as the administrative-territorial units of the Adriatic countries, briefly describing significant natural objects like islands, peninsulas, bays, rivers, mountains, and their geographical peculiarities. It also covers the economy, culture and history, cities, ports, international agreements, research institutions and the activities of outstanding scientists, researchers, and travelers. Lastly, it provides a chronology of the main historical events that have become significant landmarks in the history of discovery and exploration of the Adriatic Sea, from the 625 B.C. to the present day.



About the Author: Prof. Igor S. Zonn - Doctor of Geography, full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Honored Meliorator of the Russian Federation, General Director of the Engineering Research and Production Center for Land Reclamation, Water Management and Ecology "Soyuzvodproekt" (Moscow), member of the editorial board of the international Journal "Problems of desert" (Turkmenistan), member of the editorial board of the Journal" Arid Ecosystems ", founder and Editor-in-Chief (since 1996) of the magazine "The Caspian Sea Bulletin", Author of over 450 scientific articles and 50 monographs, author of the encyclopedias of the Black, Caspian, Aral, Japan, Okhotsk, Bering, Barents, White, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi, Baltic, Adriatic, Ionian seas, Arctic Ocean and Danube River, published in 2004-2017 in publishing houses "International Relations" (Russia) and "Springer" (Germany).

Prof., Dr. Andrey G. Kostianoy - Doctor of physico-mathematical sciences, Chief Scientist at the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow, Russia), a Visiting Professor at the University of Liege (Belgium), Honorary Professor of Tver State University (Russia). He is Editor-in-Chief of "The Handbook of Environmental Chemistry", Springer Publishing House (Germany), member of the editorial board of the Journal of Marine Systems "(Netherlands)," International Water Technology Journal "(Egypt), Editor-in-Chief of the "Journal of Oceanological Research" and a member of the editorial board of several Russian and international journals. Author of over 300 peer-reviewed papers, author and/or editor of 65 books, including the Encyclopedia of the Black, Caspian, Aral, Japan, Okhotsk, Bering, Barents, White, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi, Baltic, Adriatic, Ionian seas and Arctic Ocean, published in 2006-2019 in publishing houses "International Relations" (Russia) and "Springer" (Germany).

Prof. Alexander V. Semenov - Doctor of Economics, Professor, Rector of S.Yu. Witte Moscow University. (Moscow), Honorary Professor at the Higher School of Finance and Management Bialystok, Poland). Author of more than 100 scientific publications, author and editor of 25 books, including the encyclopedia of the White, East Siberian, Baltic, Adriatic, Ionian Seas and the Arctic Ocean, published in 2014-2019 in the publishing house "International Relations" (Russia) and "Springer" (Germany).

Dr Aleksandar Joksimovic - is Director of the Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro. Since 1996, has been working at the Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro, where he passed through all the stages of scientific research, from assistant to PhD. Since 2006 he is head of the Laboratory of Ichthyology and marine fisheries, and from 2007 to 2013, he was director of the Institute, in the two mandats. The area of scientific research, PhD Joksimovic are marine biology, fisheries and ichthyology, biology and ecology, population dynamics of economically important species of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, marine fisheries resource assessment, assessment of biological permitted use (MSY- (Maximum Sustaineble Yield). He is a member of the following international and national labor bodies, Vice-chair of Scientific Advisory Committe of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM-FAO RIM); Coordinator of the Working Group on fisheries and mariculture the Forum Chambers of commerce of the Adriatic-Ionian region; National Scientific focal point in Montenegro in the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean, based in Rome. He has author or co-author of 119 scientific papers published in international and national scientific journals, monographs, scientific presentations at conferences and symposia, expert studies and reports.

Dr Mirko Đurovic - is a senior scientific associate at Laboratory of ichthyology and marine fisheries at Institute of Marine Biology - University of Montenegro (UoM-IMB). He graduated in 2002 at Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Science, University of Podgorica. He started to work in Institute of marine biology as PhD candidate from 2004 and gained his PhD in 2012 at Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. His main topic of research is fish ecology and biology, ichthyology, estimation of population dynamics parameters of economic important fish species, biomass estimation, MSY (Maximum Sustainable Yield) and optimal fishing effort estimations, estimation of shared stocks of pelagic and demersal resources. He is a member of the working group for negotiations with the EU regarding the Chapter 13 - Fisheries and Chapter 18 - Statistics, active member of FAO AdriaMed and GFCM working groups for small pelagic and and demersal species. In more than 15 years of experience working in UoM-IMB, he has participated in a number of training courses and workshops, and numerous national (Ministry of Science, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) and international research projects (IPA, COST, HERD, MAREA, etc), as project team member or a project coordinator. From 2014 to 2019 he was Director of the Institute of Marine Biology and member of Senate of University of Montenegro from 2016. Trough numerous research projects, he organized several summers school and workshop dedicated to marine biology, blue growth, mentors classes in marine neuroscience.
