About the Book
Within manufacturing, welding is by far the most widely used fabrication method used for production, leading to a rise in research and development activities pertaining to the welding and joining of different, similar, and dissimilar combinations of the metals. This book addresses recent advances in various welding processes across the domain, including arc welding and solid-state welding process, as well as experimental processes. The content is structured to update readers about the working principle, predicaments in existing process, innovations to overcome these problems, and direct industrial and practical applications.
Key Features:
- Describes recent developments in welding technology, engineering, and science
- Discusses advanced computational techniques for procedure development
- Reviews recent trends of implementing DOE and meta-heuristics optimization techniques for setting accurate parameters
- Addresses related theoretical, practical, and industrial aspects
- Includes all the aspects of welding, such as arc welding, solid state welding, and weld overlay
About the Author: Jaykumar Vora, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. He pursued a master's in welding technology at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) as a sponsored candidate from M/s Larsen and Toubro Ltd. and subsequently earned a PhD in advanced welding technology at PDPU. He is recognized as a Chartered Engineer-India and is a recipient of the prestigious Visiting Scientist Award from the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). He has also worked as visiting faculty and research scholar at Lamar University, Texas, USA. He is impaneled as a subject matter expert at various industrial organizations, such as Tata Consultancy Ltd., Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (Government of Gujarat), etc. Prior to joining PDPU, he worked with such companies as L&T, Tata Motors, etc. and is currently guiding three PhD students from industries along with master's and bachelor's students.
He has won several best paper awards at various conferences, and his research team was awarded second place at the IIW Young Engineers Competition in 2017. Dr. Vora is actively involved in research in close correlation with industries and labs, and he is pursuing the development of advanced welding techniques, such as A-TIG, FSW, FSSW, LBW, etc., particularly for low alloy steels, dissimilar combinations, and different ferrous and nonferrous steels. Owing to the INSA Award, he worked at ARCI, Hyderabad for a brief period in the development of the A-LBW and LBW processes. He has several international journal publications and has attended several national and international conferences with the support of SERB, Government of India. He is also a reviewer for many international peer-reviewed journals and books, and he has chaired several technical sessions at international conferences. He is currently working on techniques to incorporate nanotechnology in welding processes for improved performance, for which he is in the process of filing a patent. In addition to this, he has created an online YouTube channel named Researchers Online, wherein he has uploaded several videos covering the basic aspects of research, particularly for young researchers and students.
Vishvesh J. Badheka, PhD, studied metallurgical engineering at The M.S. University of Baroda and earned bachelor's, master's, and PhD degrees in metallurgical engineering. He is a qualified Diploma International Welding Engineer, awarded by the International Institute of Welding in December 2011.
Presently he is a professor and head of mechanical engineering at the School of Technology, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar, India. He has received funding from various agencies, including DST, ISRO, DRDO, and DAE for his research in the area of advanced welding processes, which includes narrow gap welding using metal-cored and flux-cored wires, friction stir welding similar and dissimilar metals, friction stir processing for surface composites and super plasticity, friction welding dissimilar metal combinations, and ATIG of reduced activation martensitic steels and 9Cr-1Mo steels. So far he has completed five sponsored R&D projects and four other ongoing projects. He has guided 27 MTech and 7 PhD research into his credit in advanced welding processes.
