Will's Hunter, the sequel to Will's Traveler, continues the adventures of Will, a seven-year-old prodigy, as he sails the Atlantic in search of his parents, whom he hasn't seen since Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home in New Orleans and separated him from them.
In the first novel, Will was befriended by the Olsens, who cared for him as he learned more about sailing, classical music, and languages. Friendly Bahamians and whales also aided our young protagonist. In this sequel, Will ambivalently leaves the safety and friendliness of the Olsens' home because he must discover the fate of his parents.
Following the Gulf Stream and sailing the Intracoastal Highway to the Chesapeake Bay, Will increases his self reliance but also learns to trust new friends who aid him in his quest. Once again, Bernard the whale compassionately and instinctively leads the boy from impending disaster to safe waters.
As Will crosses the Atlantic, his boat founders, but he is saved by boarding a stranded racing boat, HUNTER. Will's intelligence allows him to master the complex boat with its modern computerized gear. Will sails eastward and discovers the fate of the boat's owner. Arriving in England, he is greeted by the Queen! Treated as a hero, Will recognizes that his life will never be the same.
This sequel will give you anxious moments as Will's survival skills are tested. You also will vicariously be thrilled with Will's new life and the choices he makes. You will also revel in your new knowledge about sailing, for this book will teach you sailing terms and procedures as Will explains them and learns new ones.
