Joseph von Eichendorff: Ahnung und Gegenwart Eichendorffs gesellschaftskritischer Zeitroman Ahnung und Gegenwart ist sein erstes Prosawerk. 1815 wird er in 6 Bänden von Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué herausgegeben. In dem Buch sind mehr als 50 Gedichte enthalten, darunter In einem kühlen Grunde und O Täler weit, o Höhen. Erstdruck: Nürnberg (J. L. Schrag) 1815. Neuausgabe mit einer Biographie des Autors. Herausgegeben von Karl-Maria Guth. Berlin 2016. Textgrundlage ist die Ausgabe: Joseph von Eichendorff: Werke. Nach den Ausgaben letzter Hand unter Hinzuziehung der Erstdrucke herausgegeben von Ansgar Hillach, Bd. 1-3, München: Winkler, 1970 ff. Die Paginierung obiger Ausgabe wird in dieser Neuausgabe als Marginalie zeilengenau mitgeführt. Umschlaggestaltung von Thomas Schultz-Overhage unter Verwendung des Bildes: Carl Blechen, Das Kloster Santa Scolastica, 1832. Gesetzt aus der Minion Pro, 11 pt. Über den Autor: 1788 auf Schloss Lubowitz bei Ratibor als Sohn eines preußischen Offiziers geboren, genießt Joseph Karl Benedikt Freiherr von Eichendorff eine aristokratisch-katholische Erziehung und schließt 1812 - gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder - das Studium der Rechtwissenschaft ab und nimmt als Leutnant im Lützowschen Freikorps am Befreiungskrieg teil. 1815 erscheint mit Ahnung und Gegenwart sein erstes Prosawerk. Er tritt in den Dienst der preußischen Regierung und macht als Beamter Karriere, die mit seiner Ernennung zum Geheimen Regierungsrat 1841 ihren Höhepunkt findet. 1826 erscheint mit seiner Novelle Aus dem Leben eines Taugenichts einer der bekanntesten Texte der Romantik. 1837 erscheint die erste Sammlung von Eichendorffs Gedichten, die zum Teil aus den erzählenden Werken stammen und häufig - u.a. von Robert Schumann - vertont werden. Nach seiner krankheitsbedingten Pensionierung 1844 widmet er sich überwiegend publizistischer Tätigkeit bis Joseph von Eichendorff am 26. November 1857 in Neiße stirbt.
