About the Author: Barbara Kinney Black is a passionate family history researcher who wants to experience the lives of her ancestors through as many means possible. In her research she wasn't satisfied with mere photographs and Internet research. Like a detective or a reporter, she hunted down their stories on site. Armed with GPS, notebooks, pencils, digital camera, hand held scanner, maps, and a list of local historic societies and libraries, she discovered her ancestors in the pages of courthouse documents, dug up dirt samples from their former farmsteads, photographed any crumbling building that looked 100 years old or more, and interviewed anyone who would talk with her about "back in the day". When she isn't researching and writing, Barbara is an ESL teacher and enjoys meeting international students and traveling.
