Philip Bethge stellt hier das christliche Lebensmodell Ehe auf den biologischen Prüfstand. Dieser aktuelle Artikel ist ein Indiz dafür, dass Themen wie "Liebe" und "Dauerhaftigkeit von Beziehungen" auch und gerade in Zeiten von Pluralisierung der privaten Lebensformen ein breites Publikum interessieren. Bethge stellt unter anderem die Frage, wie der Übergang von der romantischen Liebe zur gereiften Beziehung wissenschaftlich erklärbar ist, und findet keine befriedigende biologische Antwort. Der Mensch sei seiner hormonellen Natur nach "gar nicht für die langfristige Bindung zu einem einzigen Partner geschaffen". Dagegen kann man argumentieren, dass nach fünfzehn Jahren ehelichen Zusammenlebens nur ein Viertel der Ehen geschieden wird, was die Frage aufwirft, wie der große verbliebenen Rest der Menschheit seine biologischen Wurzeln "verleugnen" kann. Diese Frage spricht mehr die soziale denn biologische Natur des Menschen an und kann unter Zuhilfenahme einer "Spielart" familiensoziologischen Denkens, des wissenssoziologischen Modells von Peter Berger und Hansfried Kellner, vorgestellt 1965 im Artikel "Die Ehe und die Konstruktion der Wirklichkeit. Eine Abhandlung zur Mikrosoziologie des Wissens", möglicherweise zufriedenstellender beantwortet werden. Berger und Kellners Ansatz ist mikrosoziologisch, das heißt, er interessiert sich für den gesellschaftlichen Prozess, der "in jeglicher konkreter Ehe die Beteiligten affiziert".
