Mark Logan is off to his freshman year of college. It is 1969 and the world around him is moving faster than he could even imagine. In the course of the book that world introduces him to war, peace, discrimination, and love. He comes of age as he encounters Linda Warren on the campus of Manchester College. She creates in him the desire to question what is going on around him and yet see love. At the same time he begins a long distance relationship with Alicia Williams through letters to her in Wisconsin as she mourns the loss of her love in Vietnam. The story delves into the learning environment outside the classroom in college; the environment that built young people who didn't merely accept what they were told. Mark Logan starts college niave; and he leaves the first year with more questions than answers.
About the Author: Michael Morris has been an educator for the past forty years. His first three years of teaching he taught elementary physical education and coached baseball and football at the high school level. For the next 24 years he taught high school English and coached football, baseball, and gymnastics. In the next eight years Michael moved into administration, first as an assistant principal at the high school level and then as a principal at the middle school level. In 2006 he retired as a principal and spent the next two years teaching at the college level and working as a child and adolescent mental health case manager. In 2008 Michael was called back to teaching, which he always felt was his calling, to teach high school English again. Currently, he is an instructional coach at the high school where he has been for 29 of his 40 years in education. Michael and his wife Michele have two grown children, Kristin and Stephen, a son-in-law, Spencer, and a future daughter-in-law Tiffany. A grandchild is on the way. At home they have two dogs - Sophie, a mixed breed, and Woodie, a stubborn basset hound. This book fulfills a lifelong dream of Michael Morris. The outline of this book came to him in 1984. He had most of the book completed by the late 80's, but he didn't return to it until the summer of 2009 when he was included in the National Writing Project's local program in Fort Wayne. The encouragement of the participants of the Appleseed Project strengthened his belief in the book. In his spare time Michael likes to play golf, travel, spend time with his family, and work on his family tree. He dedicates this book to his wife, his children, and his parents.
