De beschreven inspectie en palpatie zijn namelijk niet alleen gericht op het lichaamsoppervlak, maar ook op dieper gelegen structuren. Duidelijke foto's illustreren het oppervlak en fraaie tekeningen de diepere delen van het lichaam. Hoewel in de eerste plaats bedoeld als instructie bij de praktijk van de anatomie in vivo, is dit boek door de bijzondere illustraties en de grondigheid van de beschrijvingen tegelijkertijd een naslagwerk. Het uitgebreide register is daarop afgestemd.

Het bijhorende online supplement bevat een keur aan opdrachten en vragen per paragraaf, ingedeeld naar het niveau van de studenten. De feedback op de opdrachten en vragen is per hoofdstuk te downloaden. Bij de hoofdstukken 2 t/m 6 zijn bovendien een 30-tal video's met betrekking op de afbeeldingen te bekijken. Waarbij de afbeeldingen van een beweging alleen de begin- en eindstand tonen, brengen de video's het 'ontstaan' van de verschillen tussen deze standen in beeld. In het boek staan de video's steeds vermeld bij de desbetreffende afbeelding direct na de inhoudsopgave.

Het digitale oefenprogramma 'Anatomie in vivo' bevat van iedere spier een overzicht van de aanhechtingsplaatsen, effecten, innervatie, inspectie en palpatie, met daarnaast een schematische tekening en, waar mogelijk, een foto. Het is beschikbaar voor zowel Windows- als Mac-gebruikers.

Anatomie in vivo. Inspectie en palpatie van het bewegingsapparaat is bestemd voor opleidingen in het hbo en wo, onder andere fysiotherapie, ergotherapie, bewegingstechnologie en bewegingswetenschappen. Voor basisartsen tijdens de inleidende fase van medische specialisaties als huisartsgeneeskunde, revalidatie en orthopedie, bevat het een schat aan informatie.
