About the Book

My mom sometimes referred to me as the dreamer in the family. I decided to explore this concept in the form of a novel about a boy who has trouble distinguishing dreams from waking life. In the story, the child who believes that dreams are as valid as reality becomes a man locked in a struggle between denying and embracing them. He understands that to yield to a dream is likely to unleash it, but he has no idea what that might mean. Until he does.
About the Author: Born in Lubbock in 1959, Steven Macklyn Hubbell grew up in Rosenberg, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. After many satisfying years in the water quality profession, he resigned to embrace his longstanding passions for creative writing and painting. "One Autumn in Europe" is the author's first book. A tender reflection on a profound personal pilgrimage, this memoir describes the author's life-changing 1979 hitchhiking adventure from London to Rome and back. "La Via dell'Amore: The Path of Love" is the author's second book. A natural complement to the first, this memoir describes the author's return to Europe, accompanied by his adult daughter, 27 years later. In this work, the author combines a rediscovery of cultural treasures with intimate reflections on his attempt to repair an injured relationship. The author's first novel is "Anchors of Mist." Part nostalgic reflection, part bizarre roller-coaster ride, this work of fiction invites the reader to accompany the unpredictable journey of a young man whose inescapable obsession with dreams compels him to attempt to either harness or unleash them. It is both a love story and a coming-of-age quest for purpose, happiness, and a genuine identity. The author's fourth work, "release fireflies," is an illustrated paperback containing sixty-seven poems and twenty-two oil paintings. The verses include a mixture of somber and lighthearted reflections on the meaning of life, death, love, quests, and creativity. Steven's most recent book, "The Year of the Wind," explores the whirlwind reality of a year in the life a young man who believes he has heard the voice of God and abandons himself to follow it. Steven is living happily ever after with his beloved wife and two of his three remarkable children in an old house on a small hill in the Texas Hill Country.
