Le volume entend reexaminer la place qu'occupe l'humaniste Andre Alciat dans le panorama de la Renaissance et remettre en perspective les differents ouvrages qui composent le corpus alciatique, en inserant dans leur contexte politique, intellectuel, religieux, social et economique les etapes biographiques et les activites scientifiques du juriste milanais, connu avant tout pour son recueil poetique d'Emblemata (editio princeps a Augsbourg chez Steyner en 1531). Les contributions proposees ici mettent en evidence l'etendue des domaines d'investigation embrasses par Alciat, les multiples facettes de ses competences, la coherence de son travail historique, juridique et philologique, et les rapports complexes qu'il entretient avec l'Antiquite greco-romaine. Patiemment, des chercheurs venus de differentes disciplines reperent les fils conducteurs qui structurent une oeuvre touffue, s'interrogent sur les thematiques recurrentes qui participent a l'elaboration d'une methode ou sur le role des modeles intertextuels, educatifs ou professionnels.
