About the Book

This is the first book of two anthologies of poems that precede the Author's first publication "Songs For Susan". The Work shows the period from adolescence through to his eventual marriage. It charts the ups and downs of a teenager who eventually becomes a reasonably well adjusted young man, and the struggle to understand and accept his lot in life. The Angel's Clown (Volume One)" is the follow up to the Author's previous offerings "Songs For Susan" and "Only The Innocent Get Hurt In Love". The Anthology was written during the growing-up period of the Authors life. Some of the poems were originally set to music and were performed live by the folk group "Rhandu Rag" (Spirit of Spring) that the Author was once a member of.
About the Author: Peter James Lloyd Aldridge was born on a cold snowy morning on the 26th February 1952. He had a very happy but often spoilt childhood as the youngest child. He left home at the tender age of twenty-three to move into shared accommodation. This led to rather loud and raucous parties where drink flowed like water. After a few years of drunkenness, debauchery and abandoned pleasures, he met Susan who later became his wife. They moved in together and after sharing a house with another couple, and moving to a flat they eventually bought their first house, a Victorian terraced cottage. After living together for three years, they decided to get married. After a year, Susan gave birth to their first child Sarah and later their second child Jack. Eventually Susan became pregnant again so they moved to a larger house. There they were greeted to the arrival of their third child Harry. Eventually at the age of forty they decided that they should move to Hereford. They lived in Hereford for eighteen months, during which their fourth child Katie was born. Due to the fact that they both felt extremely homesick they moved back to a reasonably sized mid-terraced house in Alton. After many years of joy, love and happiness in the aforementioned dwelling, things did not bode well for Susan and Peter's relationship, and on the very day of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, they had a parting of the ways, as Susan had decided to divorce Peter. After a very long time, in what felt like total isolation, Peter decided that he would write a book of poetry to illustrate the situation that he had encountered and express all of his feelings in the form of verse. "Songs For Susan" was his first offering; this book is the culmination of approximately three-and-a-half years of writing down just how he feels. "Only The Innocent Get Hurt In Love" is his second offering and is a collection of poems written over a long period from the age of fifteen to the age of approximately twenty-three. It charts the changes in his life from a teenager to a young adult and portrays the different styles and feelings both physical and mental that he was going through in his life. From love to personal thoughts about his environment and the way that he should live his life. Two further books followed, "The Angel's Clown", Volumes One and Two. These are both anthologies/collections of poems also written during that same period.
