About the Book

Horst Strelow, Jahrgang 1937, Studium an der TU-Berlin, weist anhand von Goethes Werken und Briefen nach: Als Student traf Goethe die Fürstin Anna Amalia von Sachsen-Weimar und Eisenach bereits im Frühjahr 1766 in Leipzig, und verliebte sich unsterblich in sie. Sterbenskrank brach er sein Studium im August 1768 ab, setzte sein Studium nach seiner Genesung im Frühjahr 1770 in Straßburg fort, und schloss sein Studium im Sommer 1771 mit dem französischen Lizentiat der Rechte ab. In Darmstadt lernte er die Große Landgräfin Caroline von Hessen-Darmstadt sowie ihren Kriegszahlmeister Johann Heinrich Merck kennen, wechselte 1772 an das Reichskammergericht in Wetzlar, von wo aus er auf Betreiben Merck's im September 1772 entlang der Lahn wandernd über Bad Ems in das Örtchen Thal am Ehrenbreitstein gegenüber von Koblenz in das Haus der Schriftstellerin Sophie von La Roche gelangte. Hier traf er Anna Amalia wieder. Über deckadressierte Briefe blieb er mit ihr weiterhin in Kontakt. Er traf sich mit ihr kurz nach dem Weimarer Schloßbrand erneut im Juni 1774 in Ems und Nassau, sowie ein viertel Jahr darauf im Dezember 1774 in Mainz, wo beide miteinander eine Beziehung eingingen - zu damaligen Zeiten ein Sakrileg! Auf ihr Betreiben hin kam Goethe am 7. November 1775 nach Weimar. Dort setzten beide ihr eheähnliches Verhältnis fort, bekamen 1780 einen Sohn, der als Bastard unter dem Namen Wilhelm von Türkheim in Straßburg bei Lili Schoenemann aufwuchs. Erst 1786 entdeckte sein Herzog Carl August, Anna Amalias Sohn, die todeswürdige Beziehung. Er setzte Goethe in Karlsbad fest, von wo dieser nach Italien floh, gegen den Willen Carl August aus Liebe zu Anna Amalia 2 Jahre später nach Weimar zurückkehrte, und beide ihr Leben als die Entsagenden fortlebten. Fast in allen Hauptwerken ging Goethe auf diese Lebensgeschichte ein, und zwar angefangen von 1766 bis an Anna Amalias Ende 1807, ihr in seelischer Treue auf ewig verbunden! Über 14 Jahre Punkt für Punkt nachgewiesen!
