Ma i briganti attaccano il casale di Luisa, le circostanze vi conducono anche Antonio: è costretto a uccidere.Diventa "TonioRosso", ma la voglia di ritrovare Pinù è troppo grande. Lì incontra Micu, che gli consiglia di costituirsi. "Il professore, in verità maestro, era un uomo di mezza età, magro, non molto alto, leggermente curvo, in una parola rachitico." Antonio si convince, torna in prigione, da qui, alla miniera di zolfo, sognando Sarinèlla e una bella barca tutta sua sopporta meglio le fatiche. Due anni sono lunghi, ma alla fine passano.Un altro inizio, un altro "padre"; barone di Rocchedara, questi muore. Un'altra accusa ingiusta. Con l'aiuto di Peppiniello, Antonio evade.La grande distesa azzurra manda ancora il suo richiamo. "...quell'accidente d'un vecchio lupo di mare spianò la pistola e non ci fu verso... ...Andò a picco senza fare una piega, ritto con la mano in fronte a mo' di saluto sparì fieramente sotto il pelo dell'acqua".Antonio sparirà volando oltre la sua scogliera risucchiato dal blu.
