About the Book

Written in 1999 before the Towers fell, "Apocalypse" could have been classified as phantasmagoria, but today the novel seems rooted in reality.

The story begins as war breaks out in Israel, and a ship arrives in Haifa to transport civilians from the war zone. Alina, our heroine, learns that the ship has been targeted by Muslim terrorists. She sacrifices her own well-being to ensure her children are safely removed from the scene, but this means that they will end up leaving Israel without her. Through perseverance and ingenuity, she struggles to escape Israel and search for her children in Europe. Her journey takes her from Kiev, to Romania, where she ends up involved in an adventure dealing with stolen diamonds from the Ceausescu collection, to Germany, where she lives in the home of one of the Arab terrorist commanders, and to Greece.

This is a timely novel of a brave woman's journey through a world at war. Yet in spite of separation, danger, and intrigue, life goes on...

About the Author: Elena Ulanovsky was born in Russia (during the time of the Former Soviet Union. She grew up in Ukraine, and then immigrated to Israel, later moving to the States.

Her life journey inspired her to become a writer and provided her with a lot of material for her books. With the goal of improving her skills, she took classes at UMass Lowell, the Film School at MassArt Boston, and an extended production course in NYC Film Academy. Her novels were published in "The New Review" (New York) and Israeli magazines during 2003-2016.

Her debut book "Palms from the Asphalt" was published in 2016. Writing screenplays led Elena to produce two documentaries featuring her own scripts: "Russian, the Tough Language," screened on Israeli TV in 2009 (in Russian) and "From Russia with Math," created in Boston in 2013-both directed by Alexander Kaplan. Her play "Nemesis" and screenplay "Hebrew for two" are now in production in Israel.
