Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2024 im Fachbereich Klassische Philologie - Gräzistik, Note: 2,7, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Institut für Altertumswissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Thukydides und der Peloponnesische Krieg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit soll sich thematisch mit der Darstellung der Athener in Thukydides' Peloponnesischem Krieg befassen. Zunächst werden zwei Ereignisse vorgestellt und nach der Fragestellung "Wie werden die Athener dargestellt?" untersucht. Im Anschluss daran werden beide Ereignisse miteinander verglichen, um zu untersuchen, ob und gegebenenfalls, wie sich das Bild der Athener in beiden Darstellungen unterscheidet. Es werden dafür zuerst die Gemeinsamkeiten der beiden Reden zusammengestellt, danach die Unterschiede verglichen. Im Anschluss werden die Ergebnisse der Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede kurz zusammengefasst. Dazu wurden auf der einen Seite der Epitaphios des Perikles und auf der anderen Seite die Rede der Korinther auf der großen Versammlung in Sparta ausgewählt. Eine wichtige Frage der modernen Forschung könnte anhand dieses Beispiels gut erläutert werden: Spiegelt Thukydides wirklich eine ungefilterte Meinung wider, oder bearbeitet er das Erlebte so, dass seine eigene Meinung mit in die Darstellung einfließt? Allgemein gibt es auch noch heute ein reges Interesse an dem Werk von Thukydides; dies zeigt sich unter anderem anhand neuer Übersetzungen des Textes, wie beispielsweise der von Michael Weißenberger aus dem Jahr 2017, deren Kommentar an geeigneter Stelle herangezogen wird. Einen Höhepunkt fand die Forschung um die in der Arbeit thematisierten Themen in der Mitte der 1950er Jahre bis hin in die späten 1960er und frühen 1970er Jahre. Aus dieser Zeit stammen einige Monographien, die sich beispielsweise speziell mit dem Epitaphios des Perikles oder der politischen Selbstdarstellung der Athener befassen.
