The Atkins diet is a low-carb diet that is usually recommended for weight loss, or, rather, fat mass loss.

THE SATURATED FATS DEBATE Many studies show that saturated fat consumption can increase LDL (bad) cholesterol, which is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease .
A recent review conducted by the American Heart Association on the Impact of Saturated Fats on Heart Diseases concluded that replacing saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat can help reduce cardiovascular disease by about 30 percent--note3--. Some reviews also suggest that replacing saturated fat in the diet with polyunsaturated fat reduces the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes
