Veuf depuis dix ans, Antoine a dévoué son temps et son amour à son fils Lucas qui aura bientôt dix-huit ans. Tous les deux ont su se créer une petite bulle les protégeant du monde extérieur, cependant celle-ci va exploser suite à la tentative de suicide d'Antoine.

Lucas va alors tout faire pour comprendre son père qui depuis quelques temps semble déprimé et insensible à ce qui l'entoure, mais il fait face à un mur. Antoine se barricade et refuse de communiquer réveillant une colère chez son fils jusqu'alors insoupçonnée.

C'est lors d'un week-end entre amis, préparé par son fils, qu'Antoine est acculé et se retrouve sans autre échappatoire que de parler. Il admet qu'il a du mal à vivre et que cela n'a rien à voir avec le deuil de sa femme. Il pense tout simplement à un garçon qu'il a aimé il y a bien longtemps, mort lui aussi. Antoine n'arrive plus à se défaire de cet amour qui résonne encore en lui mais qui ne pourra jamais renaître, ce garçon ayant disparu avec des milliers d'autres dans les attentats du onze septembre 2001.

Lucas tente alors d'apaiser sa relation avec son père et décide de leur laisser du temps à tous les deux. C'est sur l'île d'Ouessant, dans la maison d'enfance de son père, et avec son meilleur ami Bastien, que Lucas s'installe pour quinze jours. Les journées seront faites de révisions et de balades à vélo. Les deux amis ont toujours parlé librement, et reviennent régulièrement sur l'histoire d''amour de jeunesse racontée par Antoine. Pour les deux jeunes hommes, il ne fait aucun doute que ce dernier évoquait ses souvenirs avec joie et tendresse. En une seconde, une décision était prise, faire revivre à Antoine les instants de bonheur en partant à la recherche de souvenirs dans la maison de famille.

Les trouvailles sont anecdotiques, jusqu'au moment où Bastien découvre un paquet soigneusement caché contenant des lettres.

Elles sont toutes de Marcus, le garçon des souvenirs d'Antoine.
