Länder - Neueste Geschichte, Europäische Einigung, Note: 1.9, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (Historisches Seminar), Veranstaltung: Politik und Religion im 19. Jahrhundert, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das öffentliche Interesse an einigen geschichtlichen Ereignissen scheint in Wellen zu kommen und auch wieder zu gehen. Auslöser für einen solchen Boom können gerne Jahrestage, politische Ereignisse aber auch populäre Kinofilme und Dokumentationen sein. Ein skandinavisches Beispiel für ein Thema, das immer wieder punktuell in den Aufmerksamkeitsfokus rückt, ist die norwegische Auswanderungswelle im 19. Jahrhundert nach Amerika. Diese Epoche scheint besonders in den 1980er Jahren sowohl bei Wissenschaftlern als auch in der Öffentlichkeit besonders präsent gewesen zu sein, wie sich an einem Blick auf die Literaturliste erkennen lässt. In den folgenden 20 Jahren wurde es dann relativ ruhig um das Thema, bis im Jahr 2000 das öffentliche Interesse bedingt durch das 175-jährige Jubiläum der ersten Ankunft von norwegischen Siedlern in den USA erneut ins Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit gerückt wurde. Seit dieser Zeit ist das Interesse an diesem Thema in Norwegen kontinuierlich gewachsen. Vorläufiger Höhepunkt war die Kielsetzung der Schaluppe Restauration, dem originalgetreuen Nachbau des Schiffes, mit dem die ersten Norweger 1825 ihr Land verließen. Betrachtet man dieses Schiff, so sieht man, dass es wohl auch einer großen Portion Glück bedurfte, in dieser "Nussschale" heil über den Atlantik zu gelangen . Wer aber waren die 52 Männer und Frauen, die am 4. Juli 1825 die gefährliche Reise ans andere Ende der Welt antraten? In der folgenden Arbeit wollen wir uns näher mit den Gründen der ersten Auswanderung beschäftigen. Was waren es für Menschen und warum verließen sie ihr Land?
