Bei der Vielzahl seiner Erfolge wahrte er stets der mos maiorum, wodurch er ein hohes Ansehen beim Volk genoss. Durch seinen Sieg über Sextus Pompeius vollendete Augustus die von Caesar angestrebte Sicherung der Getreideversorgung Roms. Ihm gelang ebenso die Rückgewinnung des Gebietes Illyricum, was Caesar zuvor verlor. In Untergrabung der mos maiorum, die Rom erst zu dessen Größe verhalf, kam es in der Folge zu Ausschreitungen wie z.B. Korruptionen als eine das öffentliche und private Leben bestimmende Potenz . Durch das Streben nach Macht und zunehmend mehr Erfolg gerieten relevante Dinge, die einen langfristig stabilen Staat begünstigen, aus dem Blickwinkel. Beispielgebend dafür waren u.a. die Feldherren, die im Zuge ihrer Triumphe nicht länger Diener der Republik blieben, sondern subjektive Interessen verfolgten und zu eigenständigen Mächten aufstiegen . Durch die Aufwertung traditioneller Werte gelang es Augustus die Macht auf sich zu konzentrieren und somit Kontrolle über seine Untertanen zu erwirken. Er war der letzte Herrscher, der diese Strategie verfolgte . Augustus endet im Kapitel 30 mit den Worten "(...)et postea trans Danuvium ductus exercitus meus Dacorum gentes imperia populi Romani perferre coegit .". Diese Aussage betont die absolute Macht des römischen Volkes und ordnet ihm abschließend eine hohe Wertigkeit zu. Primär stellt Octavian somit das heraus, was er vor allen Dingen seinen Nachkommen hinterlassen wollte, nämlich seine Größe als Herrscher. Erst diese verhalf dem römischen Volk zu seiner überragenden Herrschaft.
